Free internet needs infrastructure
▶ We operate secure servers in Europe for uncensored internet access.
What is this about?
When authoritarian regimes throttle the internet, block platforms, or shut networks down completely, this is about far more than the loss of social media. Digital censorship is a direct weapon against the population. In crisis situations, a digital state of emergency can become an acute danger to life.
The consequences of network blocks and surveillance are devastating:
Total isolation:
Independent news is blocked. Contact with family and friends breaks down.
Suppression of protests:
Activists can no longer organize and coordinate.
Invisible violence:
State violence happens in the dark, without the testimony of the global public.
Radical repression:
Anyone who researches online, protests, or shares evidence becomes a target for intelligence services. Digital traces can be followed by intimidation, imprisonment, and torture.
Censorship does not only isolate people. It leaves them defenseless.
Our answer: servers for freedom
We collect donations and use them to operate highly secure, censorship-resistant server infrastructure in Europe.
This allows us to break through digital blockades, secure the free flow of information, and protect activists from being discovered.
One of the tools that makes this possible is Conduit, a gateway developed by Psiphon. Conduit turns devices or servers into relay stations: they help forward connections from censored networks into free networks.
The Psiphon app needed to use this infrastructure is already widely used in countries such as Iran, Myanmar, and Russia. Through it, users can connect to our Conduit servers and bypass state censorship.
We have already enabled hundreds of thousands of connections, and behind every connection there is a human being.

How is donated money used?
100% of donations go directly into technical infrastructure: renting virtual servers from providers with flexible payment models. This allows us to adapt quickly to the current technical and political situation.
Setup, maintenance, administration, and public communication are all done entirely on a voluntary basis.
Okay, I am convinced. Where and how much should I donate?
Every amount helps: with every additional euro, more people can move through the internet without censorship. As a rough guide:
10 euros enable around 100 people to communicate securely for one month, at any given time.

Psiphon? Conduit? How does this actually work?
Psiphon Inc. grew out of a Citizen Lab project at the University of Toronto with the goal of enabling censorship-free communication. The software is open source and publicly auditable. The Psiphon app enables uncensored internet access on smartphones. Conduit provides bandwidth for Psiphon users.
Every additional server increases the available bandwidth and enables more people to access the free internet.

An international project with a special focus on Iran
Our server project is aimed at people around the world who are affected by internet censorship. Since this project is organizationally rooted in Azadi Berlin e.V., and some of us are active there, our hearts are especially with the people of Iran.
